Devotion to a cause.  Or to your children, to your spouse.  To God.

Often we get it backwards.  No one has more devotion to us than God, but we tend to let Him and our relationship take last place.   I admit I’m guilty.  Okay…glad that’s out of the way.

I dove back in to my devotions, and it never fails…I see what I needed to see in this moment; like I’m being hit upside the head with it.  It’s way easier to try to control things myself, and to figure out solutions – rather than to wait quietly and listen.

Bah humbug!  Who needs to wait quietly when you have a brain?!?  Figure it out…get it done.  What’s the point of being a Type A personality if you can’t take charge, right?

Except that it doesn’t work very well.

And I know.  Because I have spent every waking hour – and at times every sleeping hour – trying.  I won’t explain here the price of trying to take matters into my own hands.  Let’s just say that it got my attention.

Now, we know that I don’t give up easily, and we know that the achieving and conquering still has to be done…but consider this: (a little birdie said to me – okay not a bird, but an app on my iPhone)

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;  do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.”  Psalm 37:7

Lately the image of David taking down Goliath has been popping into my mind.  I bet David had no clue what he could do, until God told him that it was okay to stand up, and just do it.   God came up with “just do it,” by the way. Sorry, Nike;  you stole that one from God.

Don’t worry, I am not “David,” but I AM surrounded by a good number of David’s offspring.

But if David can wait on God, and THEN go hit Goliath square on the forehead and drop him like a sack of ….potatoes, then just maybe?  What is exciting to me is that David didn’t just drop the big guy, he sent a message to the rest who were counting on Goliath, and what was that message?  “You are next.”

So I figured out that it is probably time for me to wait quietly on God, and see who the David is in His plan.

Is it you?
